LOOKING

The high-definition video component of VISIONS ‘05 is partially sponsored by a program within the National Science Foundation’s Information Technology Research Program: Laboratory for the Ocean Observatory Knowledge INtegration Grid (LOOKING). The overarching goal of LOOKING is to develop the prototype cyberinfrastructure necessary to support routine, remote ocean and earth science and education within the NSF’s Ocean Research Interactive Observatory Networks (ORION) program.

Two LOOKING Principal Investigators, John Orcutt of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Larry Smarr of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, will host the live, full HD broadcast at the iGrid 2005 meeting in San Diego on September 28 and 29th. LOOKING PI John Delaney (UW), along with UW Professor of Oceangraphy Deborah Kelley, will be the onboard hosts of this live transmission.

iGrid 2005 is a coordinated effort to accelerate the use of existing multi-10 Gbps international and national networks, to advance scientific research, and to educate decision makers, academicians and industry researchers on the benefits of these hybrid networks.
