Sulfide microbial incubator onboard the R/V Thompson just prior to loading it onto an elevator that will take it to the seafloor. The barrel assembly includes four discrete chambers, a series of temperature probes, a hydrogen sensor for continuous measurement of dissolved hydrogen in vent fluids, and two osmo samplers for getting time-series measurements of fluid chemistry. Data are recorded in a data logger stored inside a titanium housing that can withstand high pressures.
