Hydrothermal vent fields (Mothra, Main Endeavour, High Rise, Salty Dawg, and Sasquatch) are spaced ~ 2-3 km apart along the 15 km long central segment of the Endeavour Ridge. Based on earthquake and seismic imaging data (Wilcock, Carbotte, Detrick), it is hypothesized that fluids circulate to depths of ~ 2 km beneath the seafloor, heat to temperatures >>400°C and rise buoyantly to the surface.
