Recovery of a 4,000 lb piece of the diffusely venting sulfide chimney called Roane, located in the Mothra Hydrothermal Field. Detailed investigation of this chimney through NSF funding shows that it hosts a dense and diverse microbial community. Based in part on these results, the sulfide incubator project was developed.
