Jim is the Jason pilot on the 8-12 watch (8 pm to 12 am and 8 am to 12 pm). The Jason control van is a marvel of tehcnology. The video screens help the pilot, engineer, navigator and scientists to follow the position of the ship controlled by Dynamic Positioning, the position of Medea and Jason at depth, the tracks of the ship and ROV, the bathymetric maps of the work area, the landscape in front of Jason thorugh multiple cameras, the position of the fiber optic cable in the back of the vehicle, the shape and distance of obstacles on the seafloor through a sonar system, and all the controls necessary to navigate the ROV and use the Jason' manipulators.
