Remote access sampler coupled with a particulate DNA sampler located in a diffuse flow field at the south end of the gigantic black smoker called Hulk. The sampler was deployed in 2004 and has been taking water and DNA samples for the year. The white, "hairy" growth on the instrument is dense colonies of filamentous bacteria that have grown on the instrument over the past year.
