Daily Report
Thank you for a very successful REVEL 2005 cruise! Thank you to Dr. Deborah S. Kelley and Dr. John R. Delaney for hosting the REVEL Project on the VISIONS’05 research expedition on the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. And thank you to all that have contributed to this expedition and multidisciplinary program. Without scientists, engineers and crew members willing to embrace and believe in programs like REVEL, teachers would have no access to genuine research experiences, and students would never peak through the window of seagoing field research and ocean sciences discoveries.
Our deepest gratitude goes to Master Phil Smith, and the entire R/V Thompson crew for welcoming us so warmly on board. Special thanks to crew members who safely helped us transfer from seaplanes and fishing vessels to join and leave this cruise throughout the length of the program. We want to particularly acknowledge our gratitude to Eric Haroldson, Brian Clampitt and Jeff Artingsall for their work during the sea transfer at night between the R/V Thomspon and the Canadian F/V Frosty. In addition, Bill Martin, Robert Hagg and David Robertson spent many hours educating all of us in the ways of electronic and satellite communications.
Thank you to our Canadian colleagues including Dr. Rick Thomson at the Ocean Sciences Institute in Sidney, British Columbia for their graceful help finding the fishing vessel Frosty.
Morale on board was always high at mealtime even in the worst of times. Thanks to our "chefs" team, Dan McBride, Ray Gideons and Terence Singerline for regaling us during this cruise.
Special thanks to our audience for keeping in touch with the Project's seagoing activities and for literally sending hundreds of questions during the course of this expedition.
And finally, thank to all on land that have helped this program in very discrete but crucial ways. Christine Ruiz, the producer of the “live transmission” UWTV shows on Sept. 28 and 29 as well as her entire team, Mark Stoermer and his team for their web and graphics support, Kris Ludwig, Lisa Couret, Nancy Penrose and many others who from land have all contributed to the success of this remarkable adventure.
